Sundaram Kicha Ganapathy graduated form IITBombay in 1967 with a B.Tech in Electrical Engineering. He went on to get a Master’s in Computer Science from IIT Kanpur in 1969 and then joined the Computer Science department at Stanford University in 1969. He obtained his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Stanford specializing in Artificial Intelligence and Robotics.
Subsequent to that he was on the faculty at University of Michigan in Ann Arbor from 1976 through 1982 and after that he was With Bell Labs research from 1983 to 2000 and did research in a number of areas including Robotics, Virtual Reality, Tele Presence and many areas of Computer Vision and Computer Graphics. He retired as the director of Machine Perception research in 2000. He is currently the CEO of ColorEyeQ Inc which provides novel Internet based solutions for color matching to the paint industry and related businesses in Home Fashions Industry.
He has had a number of positions of leadership wherein he has both supervised a team as well as worked as part of a team. He is good at building teams and consensus and finding solutions to resolve conflicts amongst team members. He has been an active volunteer for the last two years with the IITBombay GNY chapter.
He and his wife Mala live in Martinsville, New Jersey, and have a daughter and son.
